Putting NDCQ into practice - Joining the Canadian Forces Reserve
I haven't posted in a while, some will remember me as the guy with the severe sleeping disorder. I've got great news.
I've created a routine for waking up in the morning. My alarm goes off at 6AM (though I often wake up earlier), I go on a morning run, I do pushups, situps and ab workouts. My sleep is getting better very rapidly, as the morning run forces everything to start moving, and I'm getting back into shape. I didn't mention it before, but I also have Seasonal Affective Disorder. Normally, I'm starting to feel down and slightly depressed by this time of year. However, this year I've combined tanning beds, a mild anti-depressent, and my workouts, and I'm still feeling like it is summer. I'm hoping that by next year, I won't need the anti-depressents, just the tanning.
Things are finally starting to go well, so I've decided it is time to put all my determination and progress into practice. Monday of last week, I picked up the application paperwork to join the Canadian Forces Reserve. Many Americans who followed the Afghanistan conflict closely will know that Canada was the only NATO ally besides America and Britain (and Australia, before they were kicked out) to commit troops to combat operations. I have a friend in the Canadian Forces who was stationed with the American Airborne in some heavy fighting.
My paperwork goes in this morning. The lessons I learned from Unleash The Warrior Within have brought me to this. The foremost thing on my mind when I'm going through the misery that is military training will be what Mack was told to do while in Hell Week - smile.
I'll see what I can tell people about what happens, should I be accepted into the Canadian Forces Reserve. If all goes well for a year or two, I may join the Regulars and go full time.
Always remember, if you're not dead, the only way you can fail is if you quit. NDCQ!

Just an update, turns out I
Just an update, turns out I don't have my birth certificate and I have to order a new one. So my paperwork goes in later this week or Monday next week.
Darn. lol

Blown Away!
Keep up the great work. You are destined for great things! Thank you for keeping us posted on you I was getting a little worried! Just curious about the tanning? How does that fit in here? Surely there's a good reason... So amazing by all of your efforts - you are such a perfect example of what the NDCQ attitude of accomplishment is ALL about! Keep it up. Thank you for keeping me going! NDCQ
What Deb said.
The tanning simulates the light, heat and UV radiation of summer, so it tricks the mind and body into thinking that it is a different time of year. Since Seasonal Affective Disorder happens when the light, temperature and UV radiation decrease, tanning staves it off. Exercise also helps. Some people think that tanning is unsafe, but if you don't burn and do it in a controlled environment, like a tanning bed, you gain a ton of benefits with very little risk. There is some anecdotal evidence that proper tanning helps prevent skin cancer.
My application is now in. It'll be a few months before anything happens, but I'm going all the way. I'm looking around for more and better workout programs, and I might have found something. I'm getting back into shape, and a workout program was suggested to me that, if it pans out, will let me regain my strength from back when I was a weight lifter and could do nearly 100 pushups and over 150 situps.
I'm also going to go all the way in this. I'm starting out with the Reserves, but I'm going to go full time after a year or two. I've applied for combat engineers, but I'll switch to infantry, then paratrooper, then the Canadian Special Operations Regiment (roughly the equivelent of the US Army Rangers).

Sunlight helps with depression
Seasonal affective disorder is a depression that comes in winter months and can be improved by exposure to full spectrum sunlight. Tanning beds are used in areas where it rains or is cloudy nearly year round to help improve the disorder. Deb
