I have a question
First, Happy 2012 everyone! My very best hopes and wishes for all of you! I have been working on a walking program for a few months now and I am about to go for serious training for a 5 K walk coming up in the spring. I have some chronic issues with my right ankle. I have new orthotics which are giving more stability and I tape up every time I walk. Its not particularly sore or swelling so much and doesn't hurt when I walk. However, my stride is off chronically. I tend to put more weight on the good leg and less on the bad one even though its not sore. It throws off my balalnce to. Its like a low grade limp with every step. I don't want to create chronic problems for myself. I t could be a weak muscle group issue or hips alignment or anything, IDK! Anyway. Who do I see to figure out what this is and how to correct it? Trainer, Sports medicine doc, Physical therapist? I have no clue. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks guys, appreciate you all. Deb

Hello
Hai Deb,
How are you doing? Hope that you can find the right way to overcome your ankle problems. I think Doc is absolutely right that you should consult a sports docter. And how is everything going with your other goals?
Wish you a very good 2012!
Love Francoise
Hey there Franscoise
Hi, its so good to hear from you! I will look for you on facebook. I saw my regular doctor about my ankle and he referred me to a physical therapist to evaluate my gait and ankle flexibility and strength. Now i am really on the hook to complete my 5K walk because when I told my doctor he went out and told all the office staff and then they were all so excited and enthusiastic for me. Apparently it was quite a big deal to them, I guess not many patients go for such goals. Having people watching you is kind of a good thing, you can't quit or chicken out nearly as easlily, LOL. I will contact the PT next week. I am hoping my insurance covers it, that may be the drawback. My parenting class is going really well, I am about to finish the the first group. I teach in cycles and the second session is starting the first week of Feb. with a new class. They have asked me to put together a new cirriculum and start a second class for new parents. My newborn skills are rusty though I am getting refreshed with my grand daughter! After i get things a little more refined I hope to turn the cirriculum into a book and workbook. Thats the long range goal. I am walking 5 days a week and making about a mile and a half but my time is improving. I am a little frustrated because I feel the rest of my body could be moving ahead faster but the ankle holds me back! I also start next semester in college Jan 9th. (Yikes, Monday!) I actually took my first real vacation in several years over New Years weekend. All together, I am very pleased. I truly hope you are doing very well in this New year also. Let me know how things are going for you also, Love, Deb

Hello and Happy New Year 2012
Hello Deb:
I might say that your chronic injury is completely throwing out the window your biomechanics and that is something that can carry muscular imbalaces and atorphy, joint problems, back problems and so on. Since you have set a target to run a 5K this year, I strongly suggest you to get medical attention, and for that matter a sports doctor, particulary one that works with endurance athletes would be a greate start, and from there, you might be referred to some physical therapy, rehab, a strength and conditioning program with a trainer, but bottom line, if you can, visit a sport medicine doctor to get a good evaluation. A good way to fin a good doctor to work with, visit your local running store for example, they usually have a list of profesionals such doctors, quiropractors, therapists, trainers and such.
I wish you the very best and hope you start to feel better very soon.

Hello Mandy!
Same to you Mandy. Feels so grate to be back into this wonderful community of people. You and Mack are doing such an awesome job.
I missed so much this awesome place, but sometimes work and life take me away from things that are good for me like this community. But everything is good in my world, coming back to orbit...rechearged, regrouped...pumped and ready for all the new targets God puts infront of me this year.
NDCQ forever and God bless your families!
